For the fundi’s, the ‘Zen’ of the tools I use

The priority

First there is photography, a yearning and a purpose for it, then a need for tools arise.  The motive would be to capture an image to a light sensitive device by optical means in order to reproduce it.

Nowadays it would be an electronic device.  First, determine what it is you want to do, if you merely want to express your emotions, any camera yielding 3.2 mega pixel or more would do.  If you plan on shooting commercial product shots, you’ll have to look at 6 mega pixel or more.  When you get to 10 mega pixel, you might just find yourself looking at ways to reduce clarity and detail, it becomes too realistic and more difficult to blur the lines between photo realistic and emotional.  There’s an option, called a “Lensbaby” when you get there, an inferior lens to put on your hi tech digital camera body to bring back the aesthetic feel of yesteryear’s lenses, I know, it’s reverse engineering but the price we need to pay for over kill equipment wise.  I personally do not have one of those, I use software, cell phone cameras, self adapted infra red cameras and even a flatbed scanner to achieve the “feel” that suits my mood.

To be continued soon..
